What is Wirework?

Wirework can take many forms and Helaina does not claim to be an expert on many of these.  However here's a little insight into the work behind the finished piece.

Helaina uses iron binding wire, which to her knowledge has no real use in the world, except as a method of binding other metals together to hold in place whilst soldering or welding - the iron is then surplus to requirements.

However, iron is the perfect wire to use to 'draw' with.  It is very malleable and is available in many different guages (the thickness of the wire.)  But whilst it can be easily manipulated and looks fragile, it does in fact hold it's shape very well.

By using a template, a pair of long nosed pliers and wire cutters, Helaina creates all the wire work at her desk in her studio.
